Valentino's Syndrome: from History to Images. A Case-Based Literature Review

In the emergency setting, right lower quadrant pain is a common clinical scenario. While acute appendicitis most relevant cause, there wide differential diagnosis. Valentino syndrome rare entity in which gastric or duodenal perforation, usually secondary to peptic ulcer disease, presents clinically with mimicking appendicitis. It has its origins Rudolph Valentino, famous American actor who died of sepsis following an undiagnosed perforated after appendectomy. Nowadays, radiological images play crucial role this pathology, historically diagnosed using exploratory laparotomy. Through case and review literature, we aim describe historical evolution Valentino’s syndrome, illustrate characteristics highlight increasing imaging, particularly computed tomography, early prospective diagnosis guiding targeted treatment.
